HCM CITY — HCM City Television (HTV), in co-operation with its partners, will broadcast a special live programme to mark the 65th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day on July 27.

The two-hour programme, Ky Uc 27 Thang 7 (Memories on July 27), which will begin at 8pm on July 22, will feature celebrations around the city and in Tay Ninh, Quang Nam, Ha Tinh and Thai Nguyen provinces.

There will also be reports on people and soldiers who live at the historic sites of Cu Chi, Con Dao and Gio Linh in HCM City, Ba Ria-Vung Tau and Quang Tri provinces. Cu Chi District's Ben Duoc Memorial Temple will be highlighted.

The temple was built to honour 45,000 heroes and martyrs across the country who laid down their lives in battles during the French and American wars.

Cu Chi, which has 11,000 martyrs, is now home to 200 Heroic Mothers and 3,000 invalid veterans, all of whom are under local authorities' and people's care.

The show will be followed by a documentary report featuring social and charity activities organised by Government authorities, organisations and individuals to help heroes and martyrs.

The show expects an audience of hundreds of Heroic Mothers, and veterans and soldiers invited by the organisers. In addition, residents in the region will also have access to the show, which will be broadcast live on the provinces' TV stations.

According to HTV general director Nguyen Quy Hoa, HTV and its partners, including the 7th Military Zone and Quan Doi Nhan Dan (People's Army) newspaper, hope the show will help younger generations appreciate the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the country's independence.

Hoa said that the organisers wanted to play a role in encouraging youth to learn more about the country's history and revolutionary traditions.

Beginning on July 22, HTV will also broadcast each night a series of cultural programmes featuring music, dance, and drama by renowned artists.

There will also be performances in praise of the country, its history, traditional culture and lifestyle.

Songs, recognised as canon of revolutionary music such as Tinh Ca (Love Song) composed by Hoang Viet and Hanh Khuc Ngay Va Dem (March Night and Day) by Phan Huynh Dieu, will be highlighted.

Pop singer Thanh Thuy of the 7th Military Zone Art Troupe will also perform a song with support from a dance group.

The 36-year-old said she found inspiration by singing revolutionary tunes, discovering that "performing is learning". —VNS
