HA NOI (VNS) — The U19 national football team arrived Brunei early yesterday morning to compete in the 2014 Hassanal Bolkiah Trophy, aiming to finish in the top four.
French head coach Guillaume Graechen told the Viet Nam Football Federation before leaving that the team were ready for the event following several months of preparations.
Graechen has added some new faces to his 22-member squad to compete at the fifth edition of the invitational tournament.
According to Graechen, the tournament would serve as a warm up for the upcoming ASEAN Football Federation U19 Youth Championship in Viet Nam and the AFC U19 Championship in Myanmar, so he wanted to experiment with different players to finalise his final squad.
The Brunei event has attracted 11 teams under the age of 22 divided into two groups, and will kick off today.
Viet Nam are in Group B alongside Cambodia, Malaysia, Brunei, Singapore and Indonesia. Group A consists of East Timor, Laos, the Philippines, Myanmar and Thailand.
Viet Nam will play their first game against Singapore tomorrow. — VNS
