HA NOI (VNS)— Two leading representatives of the UK's contemporary music scene – Anushka and Bwani Junction – will perform live in Ha Noi and HCM City next month.

Brought to Viet Nam by the British Council (BC) and CAMA Viet Nam, their performances are among a series of activities to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Viet Nam-UK diplomatic relations and the BC's 20 year presence in Viet Nam.

Comprised of producer Max Wheeler and singer/songwriter Victoria Port, Brighton-based duo Anushka have exploded onto the UK's effervescent underground dance music culture.

While the duo Anushka are touted as one of the most exciting dance acts of 2013, Bwani Junction – made up of four young Scottish male artists – have been praised as one of the UK's hottest young indie bands. Their debut album, Fully Cocked, was nominated for the Scottish Album of the Year 2012. The band won Best Newcomer at the Scottish Alternative Music Awards 2012.

In Viet Nam, the UK bands will perform alongside Viet Nam's next generation of top musicians, including DJ Slim V and flutist Huyen Trang, LND Underground, WhiteNoiz and Sai Gon Beats.

In Ha Noi, the Van Ho Exhibition Centre will host the action on November 9, while music lovers in HCM City can go to Q4 stage to enjoy the live show one day later.

Tickets are free and can be collected at the British Council, 20 Thuy Khue Street, or CAMA ATK, 73A Mai Hac De Street, Ha Noi, from November 1.

In HCM City, tickets can be obtained at the British Council, 25 Le Duan Street, District 1, or from ticketbox.vn.

Director of the BC Viet Nam, Chris Brown, said: "Enabled by the British Council Viet Nam, two members from CAMA Viet Nam had an opportunity to join the Great Escape 2013 festival in the UK. The Great Escape is the new music festival that showcases emerging artists from all over the world; notably, Adele played Great Escape 2007 before debut album 19 shot her to global fame.

Anushka and Bwani Junction gave acclaimed performances at Great Escape, so I believe Vietnamese audiences will heartily welcome them, together with Vietnamese talents."

Besides the performances, there will be a musical workshop held by Anushka and Bwani Junction on November 8.

Aside from music-related discussions, participants, including local and international talented musicians, will take part in an informal practice session.

To be held at Ha Noi's CAMA ATK, this workshop is aimed at those keen on learning more about electronic composition and production, songwriting, guitar, bass, drum, DJ and singing techniques as well as mixing musical genres. — VNS
