HA NOI (VNS)– London-based electronic musician, songwriter and artist Leafcutter John will gather with Vietnamese and other international artists to perform at Ha Noi SoundStuff, an electronic music festival in the capital, which has been going since March 29.

An artist with roots in folk music, Leafcutter shows this influence in his compositions, which are based on computer music and the use of everyday sounds.

His Ha Noi performance will be at the Viet Nam Museum of History, 1 Ton Dan Street, on Friday from 6pm.

Earlier, on Wednesday and Thursday, the English artist will have a discussion with fans of electronic music at the Goethe Institute.

He had discussions yesterday on the theme "Electronic Music Meets Classical Music" with the Ha Noi-based teenage orchestra Rhapsody Philharmonic on the British Council premises.

Leafcutter has released four albums, all of which combine elements of folk song with electronic passages, in which the third abum, The Housebound Spirit, received an Honorary Mention at the 2004 Prix Ars Electronica, one of the most important annual prizes in Europe in the fields of electronic and interactive art, computer animation, digital culture and music.

The album, Held on the Tips of Fingers, which he recorded together with his band Polar Bear, was among the nominees of the 2005 Mercury Prize, an annual music award for the best album from the UK and Ireland.

Besides solo performances, Leafcutter has engaged in other projects, including one to create an interactive art installation which responded to viewers movements. – VNS
