HA NOI (VNS)— Grammy-winning South Korean soprano Sumi Jo will enchant Vietnamese audiences with her amazing voice during her debut concert in Ha Noi this weekend.
Entitled We Are Friends Concert with Sumi Jo, the concert is among several activities planned to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the diplomatic relationship between Viet Nam and South Korea.
In addition, the classical concert introduces another aspect of South Korean music to Vietnamese audiences already familiar with the country's modern popular music or K-pop, said the director of the Korean Cultural Centre, Park Nark-jong.
Sumi, who won a Grammy Award for Best Opera Recording in 1993 and the Best Soprano of the Year at the La Siola d'Oro International Opera Prize in Forli, Italy in the same year, revealed that she has selected world-famous tunes to perform during her debut concert in Ha Noi.
On the Beautiful Blue Danube by Johann Strauss is included in her repertoire.
During the concert, Sumi will share the stage with Vietnamese singer Duc Tuan, who specializes in semi-classical music, to duet Brindisi from the opera La Traviata by Verdi, I Love You So from the Merry Widow by Lehar, and Beauty and the Beast.
Tuan, whose Paradiso show last year featured famous Broadway showtunes, will also perform the famous songs Granada, This Is the Moment, and Tinh Ca by Pham Duy.
The concert, co-organised by the Korean Cultural Centre and the South Korean Embassy in Viet Nam, will take place at the Culture and Friendship Palace, 91 Tran Hung Dao Street on Saturday and Sunday nights. — VNS
