HCM CITY (VNS)  — Joshua Allen and Chehon Wespi-Tschopp, winners of US television reality show So You Think You Can Dance in 2008 and 2012, are set to show off their slick moves in the Vietnamese version of the contest.

They will perform solo and with each other before joining the 20 finalists for a group performance at the opening of the finals today.

Wespi-Tchopp, after working with the contestants for a few days, said the field is stronger this year with some professional ballet and hip-hop dancers.

In the finals, the 20 who have qualified – 10 male and 10 female contestants each – will perform solo or in pairs in several genres like ballroom, ballet, contemporary, Broadway, jazz, salsa, jive, and hip-hop.

They will work with popular Vietnamese choreographers and dancers like John Huy Tran, Viet Max, Ta Thuy Chi, and Quynh Lan and choreographers from Canada, the US, and Germany.

Audiences will vote to eliminate three pairs after each performance, but from among them the judges will choose one male and woman contestant each for elimination.

Thus, eight rounds will see 16 people drop out of the contest, leaving two men and two women standing.

Dance sport champion Chi Anh and choreographer Tuyet Minh will comprise the jury together with guest judges.— VNS
