HCM CITY (VNS)— American performer, director and choreographer Michael Parks Masterson will present a free musical show at the HCM City Music Conservatory on April 18.
The show will feature songs from renowned musicals like Chicago, Lion King and Rent.
During his ten-day tour of Viet Nam beginning on Monday, Masterson has selected local students to join him in the programme, training them in singing, acting and dancing skills.
Popular Vietnamese artists like singers Nam Khanh, Duc Tuan and Vo Ha Tram as well as dancer Khanh Thi are expected to perform in the show.
Masterson has performed as Hoke in Driving Miss Daisy, Teen Angel in Grease, Ophelia in 15 Minute Hamlet, and Jim in Big River.
He also performed on Broadway in Phantom of the Opera and Les Miserables as well as in the Christmas at the White House concert in 2000 with renowned soprano Renee Fleming.
Masterson has travelled to at least 30 countries to perform and teach dance, music and theatre. His directing credits include Grease, Beehive, Annie, Cotton Patch Gospel, Forever Plaid, Smokey Joe's Cafe, Songs for a New World, and Seussical the Musical.
He has worked with American Voices for seven years to bring American theatre productions to Sri Lanka, Maldives, Chinese Taiwan, Turkey and Iraq.
The musical show will begin at 8pm at 92 Nguyen Du Street in District 1.
