Big names lived up to expectations to reach the semi-finals of the National Best Tennis Players' Tennis Championship, Viet Nam Master Cup, in HCM City.
In the men's singles category, local veteran Do Minh Quan topped group A with three convincing wins.
In the semi-final match today, Quan is expected to face a stern test from Tran Hoang Anh Khoa of the Army.
Khoa finished second in group B.
In the other semi-final, Da Nang's Pham Minh Tuan will face a reality check against experienced Le Quoc Khanh of HCM City.
In the women's category, Huynh Phuong Dai Trang of HCM City easily finished atop group A to reach the last four where she faces teammate Tran Lam Anh.
The other match is also an all-HCM City affair with the unexpected group B winner Tran Thi Tam Hao taking on group A runner-up Nguyen Ngoc Ai Van.
The championship is an annual tournament featuring the country's best players, but this year two talented young players, Nguyen of Hoang Thien HCM City and Ly Hoang Nam of Binh Duong, could not participate since they are playing in tournaments abroad. — VNS
