HA NOI (VNS)— A major turning point at both ends of the 2013 Eximbank V-League table is on the cards this weekend, as challengers for the title and those facing the relegation battle will be revealed.
Relegation-threatened Kien Long Bank Kien Giang take on Sai Gon Xuan Thanh on Saturday in a match that they simply must win otherwise they will end their two-year stint in the V-League.
Kien Giang is firmly rooted at the bottom of the table with 13 points, six behind The Vissai Ninh Binh, while the V-League has only four games left to play.
If Kien Giang lose to Xuan Thanh and Becamex Binh Duong, and Ninh Binh win their match, Kien Giang will be relegated to the First Division after winning promotion to the V-League two years ago.
In another early match, Becamex Binh Duong will travel to Vicem Hai Phong for an expected exciting game at the Lach Tray Stadium in Hai Phong City, given that both teams have been in pretty good shape recently.
Hai Phong is experiencing a fightback with two wins in a row, while Becamex Binh Duong beat title contenders Song Lam Nghe An (SLNA) last weekend.
The favourite for the V-League title could be known by tomorrow, as leading team Ha Noi T&T take on second-placed SLNA on Sunday for what could be a decisive match.
Ha Noi T&T are now two points ahead SLNA and three points above SHB Da Nang and if T&T beat SLNA, the Ha Noi-based football club will establish a commanding five points lead in the title race.
Hoang Anh Gia Lai, who suffered their first home defeat last week, after losing 3-1 to Thanh Hoa, are likely to return to their winning ways as they host Dong Nai at Pleiku City in the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai.
Da Nang, who are three points off the pace, have no choice but to defeat home team Long An at Tan An City to keep the title within reach.
