V-League title race starts to heat up

The V-League title race has become more unpredictable as Ha Noi T&T, which was the leader, has seen a sudden drop in form.

HCM CITY (VNS)  — The V-League title race has become more unpredictable as Ha Noi T&T, which was the leader, has seen a sudden drop in form.

With the V-League heading toward the end of the season, the team has lost seven points in the past four games, allowing Becamex Binh Duong and Thanh Hoa to reduce the gap to one and four points, respectively.

Even SHB Da Nang and Song Lam Nghe An now have a chance to climb to the top.

With four rounds remaining, Viet Nam News re-evaluates the standing of the three top teams, T&T, Binh Duong, and Thanh Hoa.

T&T, now leading the table with 40 points, are no doubt one of the best teams in the V-League, with one of the best coaches, Phan Thanh Hung.

They have a prolific striker Hoang Vu Samson, who has scored 19 goals, now back in service.

The chances of the Ha Noi-based football team, however, have considerably diminished, given that they have a very tough run-in, facing three strong teams in the last four games.

In the 21st round, the two-time champions will travel to Vinh city to face Song Lam Nghe An, who they had to come back two times to earn a 2-2 draw at home last Saturday at Hang Day Stadium.

After returning from Vinh city, T&T are expected to win the match against eighth-placed Hoang Anh Gia Lai at home.

The last two games, away against Da Nang and home against Thanh Hoa, will be a real challenge for the defending champions' spirit and technical skills, and could potentially decide their fate.

Another problem for T&T is that they have not had a good record against strong teams recently.

Unlike T&T, Binh Duong have a much easier run for the rest of the season, hosting relegation candidate Hung Vuong An Giang and playing away games against a mediocre QNK Quang Nam and struggling team Dong Tam Long An.

The only significant obstacle for Nguyen Thanh Son and his players is a home game against former two-time champions Da Nang, who have been riding high with four wins in a row.

Moreover, Binh Duong has not played away games very well and has lost points unexpectedly at times.

Thanh Hoa, another team with a realistic chance to win the title, will also have a favourable run to the title as they only have to visit Long An, host Nghe An and An Giang before their away game with T&T in the last round.

Although T&T are leading the race, Binh Duong has the upper hand while Thanh Hoa have only a slight chance of becoming the ultimate victor. — VNS
