HA NOI (VNS) - Former national midfieder Nguyen Huy Hoang yesterday signed a three-month contract with the First Division's Can Tho.

"Can Tho need his serve. Although he is 32, Hoang can still be good player with his experience and skilful techniques. He will help strengthen our defence," said coach Vuong Tien Dung.

Hoang has not finished his contract with former team of Song Lam Nghe An, but has not played for months.

"Can Tho need players and Hoang wants to leave to have a chance playing (so we let him go)," said Nguyen Hong Thanh, director of Song Lam Nghe An Football Joinstocks Company.

Hoang, once considered one of the best midfieders of Viet Nam, plans to retire by the end of the season and return to work as a coach assistant at Song Lam Nghe An.

During his career, Hoang has grabbed three V-League titles, two National Cup trophies and four Super Cups. – VNS
