Vien sweeps swimming events at Games

HA NOI (VNS) — Swimmer Nguyen Thi Anh Vien continued her domination at the National Sports Games yesterday.

She pocketed her 11th gold in the women's 50m freestyle event with a time of 26.70sec, which is also a new national record.

She later triumphed in the 200m butterfly and 400m medley, while setting two new Games' records.

Vien took part in 20 categories for individual and team events at the Games. The 18-year-old soldier won 18 of them, setting three national records and 11 Games records. She finished second in the other two races.

Elsewhere in the swimming competition, Hoang Quy Phuoc of Da Nang claimed the men's 200m butterfly with a national record after his gold in the 200m freestyle.

Tran Duy Khoi of HCM City also set a new Games record in the men's 50m backstroke in a time of 26.87sec.

He later teamed up with three teammates to win the men's 4x100m relay with another new record.

In football, Nghe An defeated Thua Thien-Hue 4-0 to win the men's title.

Ha Noi finished top of the medals table with 167 golds, followed by HCM City and the Military. —
