HA NOI (VNS) — Nguyen Thi Anh Vien and Phan Thi Ha Thanh on June 23 received Second Class Labour Medals from President Truong Tan Sang for their recent achievements in sports.
Swimmer Viên was the best athlete of Viet Nam at the 28th Southeast Asian Games, winning eight gold medals and a silver and a bronze medal each, and setting eight records. She has claimed three berths to compete in the Rio Olympics in Brazil next year.
Gymnast Thanh won three gold medals and a bronze medal at the SEA Games and a gold medal in the World Cup in Bulgaria.
Twenty-five other sportspersons, including gymnast Đinh Phuong Thanh, swimmer Lam Quang Nhat, fencer Nguyen Tien Nhat and walker Nguyen Thi Thanh Phuc, also received the Third Class Labour Medal in the same ceremony.
Fifty-six athletes were awarded merit certificates by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung. — VNS
