HA NOI (VNS) — Vietnamese top female swimmer Nguyen Thi Anh Vien won silver in the women's 800m freestyle at the second Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing City, China yesterday.
The 17-year-old finished second with a time of 8:41.13, 4.18sec behind the gold medallist Perez Blanco Jimena of Spain. Macias Alba Allyson Ayumi of Mexico took the bronze medal with a time of 8:41.53.
However, Vien withdrew from the women's 200m backstroke event.
On Sunday, the teenager won a gold medal in the women's 200m individual medley category with a time of 2:12.66.
In the badminton, Pham Cao Cuong missed the chance to reach the quarter-finals after losing to Joshi Aditya of India 2-0 (16-21, 19-21) in Group D of the men's singles.
Cuong had previously beaten Petrovic Dragoslav of Serbia 2-0 and Ruslan Sarsiekienov of Ukraine 2-0. — VNS
