Anh is one of two Vietnamese athletes to earn a place in the Olympics after achieving a B standard. Her personal and seasonal best jump was 1.92m, which according to coaches and trainers leaves her with little chance of entering the final round.
The Bac Lieu Province-born jumper's goal is to reach a new height for her career.
Among Anh's rivals, Anna Chicherova of Russia has the best result of 2.07m. Germany's Ariane Friedrich reached 2.06m and Venelina Veneva-Mateeva of Bulgaria passed 2.04m.
The high jump event will start at 3.30pm Ha Noi time.
The second athlete from Viet Nam, Nguyen Thi Thanh Phuc, will compete in the women's 20km walk, starting on Saturday.
In other Olympic news, the last taekwondo martial artist Chu Hoang Dieu Linh will fight tomorrow (Aug 10) in the women's 67kg pool. She will compete against seed No 6 Helena Fromm of Germany. – VNS
