HA NOI (VNS)– Viet Nam staged a stunning comeback to beat Qatar 2-1 in a friendly match yesterday in Doha.

Midfielder Nguyen Trong Hoang netted two goals in the first half after the hosts scored after just 15 minutes.

"Vietnamese defenders responded strongly to consistent attacks from Qatar. Our two goals showed great teamwork. Hoang played a solid match, however I think the whole team still needs to address some weakenesses," said coach Nguyen Van Sy.

Today Viet Nam will have their second match against Al Arabi, who are seven time champions of the national league.

The Vietnamese squad will then fly to Uzbekistan to face off with the host team in the 2015 Asian Cup qualifying third round for Group E on October 15.

In other football news, the U23 team today left for friendly matches to take place in Myanmar.

They will play a local team on Sunday and another U23 squad on Tuesday in Nay Pyi Taw capital city.—VNS
