HÀ NỘI — Nguyễn Thị Linh Chi and Trương Yến Linh scored one goal each to help Việt Nam beat Thailand 2-1 in a friendly match for the U17 female players on April 3 in Hà Nội.

The hosts played an attacking game and with strong local support, they tried to set up domination with consecutive threatening attempts from the early minutes.

However the visitors show their bravery and good techniques, with all sharp counter-attacks denied by goalkeeper Trần Thị Cẩm My.

It wasn't until the 35th minute that they broke through, with Chi pushing Việt Nam ahead with a long-distance narrow-angled free kick that beat all Thai defenders, and goalkeeper Benyapa Singsai, to find the back of the net.

The hosts maintained their dominance until the ninth minute of the second half.

Thailand level the score in the 54th minute of the match.

The Thais were given a free kick in the left wing which was converted by Thidawan Wangchin, who jumped higher than all Vietnamese defenders to nod it through.

But then, just a minute later, Linh broke through the Thai defence and hammered in a straight shot that could not be saved.

The match was one of activities to celebrate the 50th year of diplomatic relations and strengthen friendship and good tradition between the two countries. — VNS
