HCM CITY (VNS) — Viet Nam lost their fourth match against Thailand, 1-3, at the ongoing Axiata Cup in Indonesia yesterday.
Nguyen Tien Minh, Viet Nam's top badminton player, was the lone winner, beating Boonsak Ponsana 21-18, 21-13 in the first men's singles match.
But Minh, who arrived here after competing in a Malaysian tournament, failed to lift his team's performance.
Dinh Thi Phuong Hong lost 13-21, 8-21 to Porntip Buranaprasuk, 13-21, 8-21, in the women's singles.
Duo Bao Minh and Huynh Nguyen Khang lost to Maneepong Jongjit and Nipitphon Puangpuapech, 17-21, 13-21, in the men's doubles.
Later, Duong Bao Duc and Dang Kim Ngan lost to Jongjit and Sapsiree Taerattanachai, 21-14, 11-21, 17-21, in the mixed doubles.
Viet Nam currently rank sixth among eight participating teams with seven points. Previously they lost three matches, won one and drew one.
They will play against the European All Star Team in the next match. — VNS
