Việt Nam make history with Asian canoeing championship gold


The gold medal came in the mixed men’s and women’s C4 event, where four Vietnamese paddlers outperformed strong competitors from China and Kazakhstan to claim a decisive victory.

 HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam’s canoeing team made a remarkable impact at the 2025 Asian Canoe Confederation Canoe Sprint Asian Championships, securing one gold, four silver, and one bronze medals.

The results placed the team third in the overall standings in Nanchang, China.

The gold medal came in the mixed C4 event, where four paddlers – Phạm Hồng Quân, Bùi Thị Yến, Ma Thi Thúy, and Hiên Năm – outperformed strong competitors from the hosts and Kazakhstan to claim a decisive victory.

This triumph not only demonstrated the exceptional progress of Vietnamese canoeing but earned respect across Asia.

Meanwhile, in the women's C2 1,000m event, duo Nguyễn Thị Hương and Nguyễn Hồng Thái displayed remarkable determination win silver, clocking 4:42.21min.

China’s Anshuo Teng and Xina Jiang won by more than eight seconds faster silver medallists and Un Yong Cha and Ye Song Jong won bronze for North Korea in 4:50.99.

Diệp Thị Hương shined in the women's C1 500m event, claiming the second silver for Việt Nam. She crossed the line in 2:19.49, 3.99 behind China's Yanan Ma. 

Two-time Asian Games medallist and Paris 2024 Olympian Mariya Brovkova of Kazakhstan won bronze.  

The third silver medal was earned by duo Nguyễn Thị Hương and Diệp Thị Hương in the C2 500m event, finishing in 2:11.72

Olympic and world champions Shixiao Xu and Mengya Sun stole the show while the bronze went to Lali Herlin and Sella Monim of Indonesia.

Hồng Thái added the fourth silver in the women's C1 200m.

The only bronze went to Hương duo in the women's C2 200m race.

The team, including five coaches and 20 athletes, engaged in the championship held in Nanchang, China, from May 5 to 10. — VNS
