Viet Nam currently has 13,500 accommodation facilities with 285,000 rooms, including 540 three-to-five-star hotels with 56,000 rooms.

The average occupancy rate at hotels nationwide reached 58 per cent in 2012, according to Nguyen Van Tuan, head of the Viet Nam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT).

He said the country needed more three – to five-star hotels in key tourism areas such as Phu Quoc Island and central Viet Nam.

VNAT targets 7.2 million international tourists and 35 million local tourists this year.-VNS
