HA NOI (VNS)—Viet Nam have won three gold, three silver and five bronze medals at the eighth World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships in Bali, Indonesia, ranking second behind South Korea, the sport's creators.

The last gold medal for Viet Nam was won in the men's under-29 team event as Nguyen Dinh Toan, Le Anh Minh and Le Hieu Nghia scored 7.8 points in Taebaek and 7.92 points in Pyongwon to average 7.86 points - enough to claim top spot.

In the women's free-style event, Chau Tuyet Van, Nguyen Thi Le Kim, Nguyen Thuy Xuan Linh, Nguyen Thien Phung and Le Thanh Trung brought home the other last gasp gold medal, scoring 8.28 points to knock Canada and their 7.92 points into second place.

Viet Nam rounded off the last day on Sunday with a silver in the boy's under-17 team event. Nguyen Dinh Khoi, Le Thanh Trung and Lam Minh Quang completed their performance with 7.48 points, leaving them an agonising 0.02 points behind gold medallists Thailand. — VNS
