HA NOI (VNS)-- Viet Nam finished in second place at the 16th ASEAN University Games which concluded in Vientiane, Laos yesterday.
The team brought home 56 golds, 35 silvers and 28 bronzes, only bettered by Malaysia which won with 60 golds, 48 silvers and 72 bronzes. Thailand finished third with 45 golds, 52 silvers and 56 bronzes.
Most notably, Vietnamese track-and-field athletes bagged 14 golds, three silvers and six bronzes, ensuring Viet Nam finished first in the athletics events, followed by Malaysia with 11 golds, 10 silvers and six bronzes.
The country's Taekwondo martial artists also stood first in their ranking with eight golds, three silvers and four bronzes, followed by the hosts Laos with five golds, four silvers and six bronzes.
The nine-day event attracted more than 1,600 talented athletes from the 10 ASEAN member states.
