HA NOI — Viet Nam has ranked among the top four candidates seeking the chance to host the 2019 Asian Games.
Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) Director General and Technical Director Husain Al-Musallam announced the names of the top four bidders on Tuesday at the OCA Media Committee meeting in Macau.
The United Arab Emirates (UAE), Indonesia and Chinese Taipei are the other candidates vying for the opportunity to host the continent's biggest sport's event.
Viet Nam successfully organised the 22nd SEA Games in 2003 and the third Asian Indoor Games in 2009.
In a recent interview, Hoang Vinh Giang, general secretary of the Viet Nam Olympics Committee, said Viet Nam submitted a VND6,000 billion (US$300 million) budget for the event, which is only one-eighth of what China spent two years ago.
According to the bids, Viet Nam wants to organise the Games in Ha Noi, Indonesia in Surabaya and Chinese Taipei in the city of Taipei, while the UAE would offer several venues including Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
The General Assembly will select the winner at the Macau Galaxy on November 3. — VNS
