HA NOI (VNS) — Viet Nam won the Chess Olympiad's fourth round in Tromso, Norway, yesterday.

The men's team, who have an average Elo of 2558, beat Paraguay (Elo 2495) 3.5-0.5.

Two-time Aeroflot Open champion Le Quang Liem (Elo 2710) beat Axel Bachmann (Elo 2644) on board 1. Nguyen Duc Hoa (Elo 2501) and Nguyen Huynh Minh Huy (Elo 2507) defeated Cubas Jose Fernando (Elo 2455) and Matias Latorre (Elo 2277) in the third and fourth round.

However, Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son (Elo 2634) tied with Delgado Ramirez Neuris (Elo 2602) on board 2.

The win helped the men's team move up five places to 13th out of 150 teams.

On the women's side, Viet Nam beat Malaysia 3-1.

Despite winning this round, the female's team still ranked 25th out of 136 teams.

In the next round, the Vietnamese men's and women's teams will meet England and Mongolia, respectively. — VNS
