HA NOI (VNS) — The Vietnamese team defeated their Hong Kong counterparts 5-1 in the 14th ABU Robocon 2015, which was held in Yogyakarta, Indonesia on August 23.
The team Robocon Hungyen Techedu, from Hưng Yên University of Technology and Education, represented Viet Nam for the first time at the contest. With careful calculations made before each round, the team successively defeated potential candidates, with a surprise win over the Japanese team.
This is the fifth time that a Vietnamese team has won the first place in this technological contest. In the previous wins, the team from Ho Chi Minh University of Technology triumphed in 2002, 2004 and 2006, and a team from Lac Hong University won in 2014.
Organised with the theme ‘Robominton', the contest drew the participation of 19 teams from 18 countries and territories in the Asia-Pacific region. Teams from Indonesia and Thailand were placed third.
ABU Robocon is an annual handmade robot contest, which was started in 2002 for university, college and polytechnic students in the Asia-Pacific region with a common set of rules.
The contest aims to boost friendship among young people with similar interests, as well as help advance engineering and broadcasting technologies in the region. — VNS
