HA NOI (VNS)– Vietnamese football clubs have failed to attain the right to compete in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Champions League 2013, the AFC has confirmed.

In a recent meeting of the Pro League Committee held in Kuala Lumpur, the AFC attested that only nations who receive an A Standard (600-1000 points) in their evaluation can compete in its football event next year.

In October an AFC delegation came to Viet Nam to evaluate the situation of Vietnamese clubs. They tested the conditions of facilities, training systems available to players, communication capacity and finances before making their assessment.

Of the Vietnamese clubs, only Binh Duong reached the standard needed to compete in the event next year. However, their poor performance in the league since them has now ruled them out of competing in the AFC Champions League.

Thailand is the only representative from the Southeast Asian region to have teams competing in this event. – VNS
