Vietnamese hopeful Nguyen Tien Minh yesterday advanced to the semi-finals of the World Badminton Championships after beating Jan O Jorgensen of Denmark in a nail-biting three set match.
The world No 7 won 21-8, 17-21, 22-20, in approximately 70 minutes, narrowly claiming the final two sets.
Minh's victory is his first against Jorgensen after losing their previous two encounters.
The result came as a surprise to Minh who expected only to reach the quarter-finals.
In 2012, he lost 17-21, 21-19, 21-13 to Denmark's Peter Hoeg Gade in the quarter finals.
Minh will face local favourite and Olympic champion Lin Dan of China in the semi-finals. — VNS
