HA NOI (VNS) — Vietnamese Nguyen Van Huy triumphed in the Festival Blitz Chess in Malaysia on Sunday.
The Hanoian International Master, seeded second, won eight and drew three matches, scoring 9.5 points. He was followed by International Master Pascua Haridas of the Philippines and Grand Master Sundar Shyam of India.
Earlier, the Dato Arthur Tan Malaysia Open saw Le Minh Tuan of Viet Nam taking a silver medal. Tuan was seeded No 32 but had an outstanding performance to pocket seven points after five wins and four draws. Zhang Zhong of China took the title with 7.5 points.
The two tournaments are part of the Malaysian Chess Festival which DAT Chess Centre in Wilayah Kompleks, Kuala Lumpur, organised. It lured 130 masters from 15 countries and territories, including 14 grand masters and 19 international masters. — VNS
