HA NOI (VNS)—Viet Nam's top junior seeds yesterday advanced to the second round of the Li-Ning Singapore International Badminton Series.
Le Thu Huyen, seeded 7 at the tournament, defeated Ruwindi Serasinghe of Australia 21-6, 21-8 in the women's single.
Her teammate Vu Thi Trang, a Youth Olympics bronze medallist, won 17-21, 24-22, 21-13 over Indonesian rival Tieke Ariedaningrum.
On the men's side, Le Ha Anh was the only one to progress to the next round after Malaysian rival Yu Fu Lim retired.
Duong Bao Duc and Nguyen Hoang Nam, No 4, edged Sean Lee and Kean Yew Loh of Singapore 21-10, 21-11 in the men's doubles category. Meanwhile Ha Anh and Thu Huyen trounced Australian rivals Matthew Chau and Verdet Kessler 21-13, 21-18 in the mixed doubles. — VNS
