HCM CITY (VNS) — The second season of Solo Cung Bolero (Solo Bolero Performance), a reality show featuring bolero, a style of slow-tempo Latin music that became popular in southern Viet Nam in the 1950s, will air on Vinh Long Television THVL1 at 9pm every Friday from November 13.
Organisers Vinh Long Television and HCM City-based media company Kmedia said the number of contestants had increased greatly after the show decided to accept people of any age.
The preliminary round in August attracted more than 20,000 contestants nationwide, triple the number of the first season last year.
Twenty-two out of 20,000 contestants and two chosen from an online bolero singing contest were chosen to appear in the semi-final. Fourteen finalists will compete in the final rounds.
Singers Giao Linh, Phuong Dung, Hoa Mi, Bich Phuong, Dong Dao and others were the judges of the preliminary and semi-final rounds.
The final will have five judges, singers Y Lan and Thai Chau, singer Phi Nhung, journalist and music critic Minh Duc and "Vietnamese Music King" Dam Vinh Hung.
Well-known journalist Trac Thuy Mieu and singer and actor Quy Binh will be emcees of the final round.
The cash prizes are VND200 million (US$9,000 ) for the winner, VND50 million ($2,400) for the runner-up and VND30 ($1,400) million for the third-place winner. Prizes will also be awarded to finalists and some members of the audience. —VNS
