HA NOI (VNS) — Artist Phan Thanh Liem will perform Vietnamese water puppetry at Potters Field Park in London from September 11 to 14 under Discover Vietnam, a programme created by Viet Nam's embassy in the UK.
Liem will perform dragon dances, lion dance and other traditional acts on a miniature water puppet stage.
He is a member of the Centre for Conservation, Research and Promotion of Ethnic Culture, and was born into a long line of water puppeteers.
He started designing miniature water puppet stages in the 1990s.
The stage, though tiny, retains the basic elements of the traditional water puppet theatre, which has a temple and a cistern, but Liem's version is more orderly and mobile. — VNS
