HA NOI (VNS) — Viet Nam marksman Hoang Xuan Vinh won a bronze medal at the ISSF World Cup Rifle/Pistol competition in Fort Benning, the United States.

Vinh pocketed his medal in the mens 50m pistol competition early this morning (May 15), Vietnamese time.

It was his second back-to-back world cup medal, after finishing on the podium in Changwon, South Korea, last month.

The soldier placed third, with a score of 163 points, behind Mikec Damir of Serbia who shot 193,1 points and South Korean Jin Jongoh with 191,9.

Vinh, 40, is one of three Vietnamese competing in this event, which drew 68 marksmen, and he was the only Vietnamese to make the top eight to enter the final.

Coach Pham Cao Son of Viet Nam said it was a good score for the Olympian Vinh, as he was not really strong in this event.

Viet Nam now ranks eighth in the medal tally.

The top three positions went to Serbia with three golds, Mongolia with one gold and China, which earned one silver and one bronze.

Tomorrow (May 16) Vietnamese marksmen will compete in the mens 25m rapid pistol competition, with Ha Minh Thanh being the only representative.

After the World Cup concludes on May 19, Vietnamese athletes will return home to prepare for the 28th Southeast Asian Games in Singapore. — VNS
