JAKARTA (VNS) — Vietnamese students won four gold, three silver and two bronze medals at the ongoing 17th ASEAN University Games (AUG 17) in Palembang, Indonesia.
Three of the four gold medals were won by track-and-field athletes Vu Thi Huong, Nguyen Van Lai and Nguyen Thi Huyen in the women's 200m, men's 5,000m and women's 400m hurdles events respectively.
The fourth gold was bagged by Nguyen Anh Tu and Dao Duy Hoang in the table tennis men's doubles event.
Viet Nam now ranks fourth in the medal tally, with 17 gold, six silver and two bronze medals.
Vietnamese athletes are scheduled to compete in the last two track-and-field events, table tennis and Pencak Silat today.
The AUG is held every two years by the ASEAN countries in rotation. This year's games features 20 events and 225 sets of medals.
The 50-member strong Vietnamese delegation is competing in six sports events, namely track and field, swimming, table tennis, as well as taekwondo, karate and chess.
At the previous games in Laos, Viet Nam ranked second with 56 gold, 35 silver and 28 bronze medals. — VNS
