In the boys' draw, Tu Minh Tri lost 6(1)-7, 5-7 to Christian Cummings of India and Nguyen Mau Vinh Quang was defeated 4-6, 2-6 by Tonkla Mulada of Thailand.
In the girls' draw, Dao Thu Uyen could find no answer to Hong Kong's Yuen Tung Liu, and lost 2-6, 0-6. Nguyen Thu Phuong could not beat No. 2 seed Mimi Levine of the US. She lost 0-6, 2-6.
The first round will continue today. In the boys' singles event, Nguyen Van Phuong will take on Malaysian Sri Aakash Reddiyar, and Pham Minh will face Ryoma Matsushita of Japan.
In the boys' doubles, Quang and Tri will meet No. 4 seed John Bryan Decasa Otico and Steven Harianto Poedji, while Nguyen Nhut Hoang and Stefano Wirawan will play Alester Magalit and Jerome Romualdez.
In the girls' doubles, Uyen and Nathania Tan will face No. 1 duo Lalita Devarakonda and Mimi Levine, while Tran Thuy Thanh Truc and Demi Tran will play third-seeded Maria Dominique Ong and Ji Min Park. — VNS
