INDONESIA (VNS) — Viet Nam's karate team picked up two silver medals and two bronze to rank eighth in the medal tally at the 2014 Indonesia Open Karate Championships which closed in Jakarta on Sunnday.
In the female kata (performance) individual event, Japan's Rimi Kajikawa took home gold after defeating world champion Nguyen Hoang Ngan of Viet Nam.
Nguyen Minh Phung was the runner-up in the men's kumite (combat) U84kg category after losing to Soltni Kalvanagh Mahdi of Iran in the final.
Viet Nam's two kumite bronzes went to Tran Thi Khanh Vy (women's U50kg) and Bui Thi Ngoc Han (women's U61kg).
Iran bagged seven of the 13 gold medals on offer for the championship title. Japan finished in second place with three gold, followed by South Korea one gold. — VNS
