HA NOI  (VNS) — Viet Nam's petanque teams will participate in two international tournaments.

The two tournaments are the Junior World Petanque Championship, starting today in Thailand and ending on November 4, and the Women's World Petanque Championship that will be held from November 4 to 8.

Two Vietnamese teams, comprising four players each, will compete in the triple and shooting categories.

"It is the first time our young competitors are going for a world competition that is organised every two years. They have not been given any targets to achieve in Bangkok. They have been asked to learn lessons that are good for their future career," Doan Tuan Anh, head of the billiards and petanque department, said.

Anh said the women's team had a better chance as they had ranked third in the world in 2009. However, this year they will have to try their best as more than 40 teams from across the world will be their competitors in Bangkok. — VNS
