HA NOI (VNS) — Viet Nam will be aiming for a third successive victory in their Group B clash with Laos in the 28th Southeast Asian Games at Bishan Stadium tonight (June 4).
Earlier, the team beat Brunei 6-0 and defeated Malaysia 5-1 to claim the top position in Group B with six points, followed by Thailand and Timor-Leste, who had their first group victory when they beat Brunei 2-1 on June 3.
Meanwhile, with one win (beating Brunei 2-1) and one loss (losing to Thailand 6-0), Laos are in fifth place out of six teams.
Viet Nam's chances of beating Laos are high, but coach Toshiya Miura warned his team that they shouldn't be complacent in this match.
The coach said Viet Nam beat Malaysia, but that didn't mean it would reach the semi-finals. There are three more matches to be played. The team need to forget their victories to focus on the game with Laos.
Viet Nam will play with a line-up that is completely different from the formation in the two previous matches.
Viet Nam will play Timor-Leste on June 7 and Thailand on June 10.
Though Viet Nam is considered to be one of the top football teams in the region, it has not won a silver medal at the SEA Games in five decades.
Its best result to date has been winning the ASEAN Football Federation Cup in 2008. —VNS
