HA NOI (VNS) — The taekwondo team won its first gold medals at the Singapore SEA Games, after Nguyen Minh Tu and Nguyen Minh Van won the mixed pair poomsae event this morning.
The Vietnamese duo earned 7.885 points to take the lead, followed by Malaysia and Singapore.
The second gold medal went to Chau Tuyet Van, Nguyen Thi Le Kim and Nguyen Thuy Xuan in the women's team poomsae.
Earlier, one of the judges made a mistake and forgot to give points to the Vietnamese players, leading to their second rank overall with 7.830 points, behind Thailand (7.900).

Vietnamese officials complained to the organizing board. After a review, Viet Nam and Thailand had to perform again and this time, Viet Nam won with 8.130 points. Thailand came second with 8.030.
The Vietnamese men's team, however, could win only a silver medal, and were placed after the Philippines.

In cycling, Nguyen Thi That pocketed a silver medal in the women's criterium event.
Maneephan Jutatip of Thailand finished first with a time of 44.22sec. That was just a split-second behind. Som Net Ju Pha of Malaysia took the bronze.
Saleh Mohd Harrif of Malaysia won the same event for men, followed by Nguyen Van Duan of Viet Nam and Ang Vincent Chin Yong of the hosts.
In rowing, Vietnamese players entered five finals.
Pham Thi Thao and Ta Thanh Huyen, who won a gold medal yesterday, are expected to win again in the women's lightweight double 1000m category.
Ho Thi Ly will start her gold hunt in the women's single sculls light 1000m event.
Nguyen Van Linh will compete in the men's lightweight single 1000m event.
Le Thi An and Pham Thi Hue will aim for their second title in the women's pair 1000m category.
The quartet of Hue, Cao Thi Hao, Nguyen Thi Trinh and Tran Thi An will compete in the women's lightweight four 1000m event.
In athletics, Luong Van Thao and Quach Cong Lich will vie for the gold medal in the men's 400m category.
Their teammates Quach Thi Lan and Nguyen Thi Huyen will compete in the women's 400m event.
The top three positions in the medal tally have not changed.
Singapore continue to lead with 69 gold medals, with Viet Nam coming second with 59 gold medals and Thailand in third place with 58 gold medals. — VNS
