HA NOI (VNS) — Viet Nam plans to ask the Guinness World Records to recognise HCM City's Nguyen Thi Tru, the country's oldest living person, as the world's oldest living person.

Vietnam Book of Records officials on Tuesday gave a certificate and badge to Tru, who turned 121 in May, recognising her as Viet Nam's oldest living person. They also wished her many more years of life.

Born on April 5, 1893, Tru is leading a healthy life and lives with her youngest son, who is 72, in Da Phuoc Commune, Binh Chanh District. She gave birth to 11 children, but only four are alive.

Tru says that the key to a long life is eating at the right time, cherishing the people around oneself and leading a simple but carefree life.

With 31 centenarians, Binh Chanh District reportedly has the highest number of people above the age of 100, accounting for 7.95 per cent of the district population.

According to the Guinness World Records, Japan's Misao Okawa, who turned 116 in March, is currently the world's oldest living person.

The Vietnam Book of Records expects to complete all procedures as soon as possible to submit the dossier to the Asia Book of Records and the Guinness World Records to make its record claim.— VNS
