(VNS)—Viet Nam came from behind to beat Chinese side Shandong 3-2 in a thrilling semi-final at the International Women's Volleyball Tournament yesterday in Ninh Binh Province.
The team showed tremendous courage to recover from early setbacks, eventually prevailing 23-25, 20-25, 28-26, 25-12, 15-13.
It was the second time Viet Nam had overcome Shandong this week after triumphing in an earlier qualifier.
After their semi-final match, the national team received a bonus of VND50 million (US$2,400) from tournament organisers for their achievement.
In the final tomorrow, they will meet another Chinese squad – Jiangsu – who thrashed Kazakhstan 25-10, 25-16, 25-15 in the other semi.
It will also be their second clash at the event, known as the VTV Cup. In their previous encounter, Viet Nam were narrowly defeated 15-25, 25-23, 25-23, 21-25, 9-15.
The third-place playoff will see Kazakhstan take on Shandong. — VNS
