HA NOI (VNS) — The Viet Nam Olympic Committee (VOC) expects its athletes to win at least 16 to 18 berths at the upcoming summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The VOC shared its expectation during a conference on Thursday in Ha Noi after reviewing a strong athlete line-up in some sporting categories, such as track-and-field, fencing, swimming and shooting, as well as wrestling and gymnastics, which have experienced outstanding success in recent years.
The VOC said the selected 60 athletes or so will receive considerable support, including an intensive training schedule and a better nutrition regimen throughout this year.
At present, four spots have been secured by swimmer Nguyen Thi Anh Vien, weightlifter Thach Kim Tuan, and marksmen Hoang Xuan Vinh and Tran Quoc Cuong, the VOC revealed. — VNS
