WAFM Fest to show VN short films


The best short movies by Vietnamese directors will be presented at the WAFM Film Fest 2015, which starts on Friday at the Viet Nam Cinematography Association.

HA NOI (VNS) — The best short movies by Vietnamese directors will be presented at the WAFM Film Fest 2015, which starts on Friday at the Viet Nam Cinematography Association.

Hosted by the Centre for Assistance and Development of Movie Talents (TPD), the three-day event will introduce a collection of 17 movies, of which some won awards at Vietnamese and international movie festivals.

Focused on the theme "Stories of Youth", screenings will be divided into four topics: Loneliness, Borderlines, Families and Sorrow.

The short movies Nguoc Dong (Upstream), Dong Vao Mo Ra (Close and Open), Sac Mau Diu Em (Enchanting Colour), Hat Cam va Con Meo Vang Khong Tuoi (Orange Seed and the Ageless Yellow Cat), will be featured in the Loneliness category, which will be screened on Friday, at 6.30pm.

The Borderlines category, featuring YRML, Yen Lang (Be Quiet), Nhu Vay Do (That‘s How It Is), Ngay Mai (Tomorrow), and Lam Ban Ma (Make Friend with Ghost) will play on Saturday at 7pm.

The screening at 7.30pm on Sunday will showcase the Families category, including Lam Bo (Fatherhood), Nguoi Dan Khan (The Scarf Weaver), Van Minh Xi Xom (Squat Toilet Civilisation), and Ngoai Kia Co Gi (Something Out There), which won the Jury Award at the 3rd HANIFF.

The Sorrow category features Thang Cho Chet (The Son of Bitch), San Thuong (Terrace), Cuoc Xe Dem (Night Run), and 2, 4, 6.

Night Run by Bui Thac Chuyen won the 2000 Cannes Film Festival's Cinefondation Award for productions made by students at film schools, the 2, 4, 6 was produced by Nguyen Hoang Diep, whose the full-length Dap Canh Giua Khong Trung (Flapping in the Middle of Nowhere) was recognised at several movie festivals such as the 29th Fribourg International Film Festival in Switzerland in March, the 3rd Ha Noi International Film Festival (HANIFF) in November 2014, and the 2014 Venice International Film Critic's Week.

All the screenings will take place at 51 Tran Hung Dao Street, Level 4, following a Q&A session with directors from the TPD.

The TPD was established with the purposes of designing and implementing programs to assist and develop Vietnamese cinema.

WAFM refers to "We Are Filmmakers" – a major TPD projects. Established filmmakers in Viet Nam such as Phan Dang Di and Nguyen Hoang Diep were former students of the TPD. — VNS
