HCM City (VNS)— Mai Thanh Chuong from Hoi An won first prize and US$2,500 for his work Destruction by Human Beings at the Talent Prize 2014 photo competition which wrapped up in HCM City yesterday.

Chuong's photo showcases a forest being burned down by human beings, leaving bare tree roots whilst the forest itself is covered with a black ash and smoke.

The Climate Change in Photography competition was launched by the Embassy of Denmark in Viet Nam in June and attracted photographers from all over Viet Nam.

"Global warming and environmental changes are challenging the livelihoods of many Vietnamese. I hope this competition will contribute to strengthening public awareness about climate change and what every one of us can do to mitigate the effects," said Danish Ambassador John Nielsen.

On the same day, a workshop on photography was held where the competition's jury members Maika Elan, Hoai Linh and Michael Daugaard shared with the audience their valuable experience about how to take good photographs and how to work in a global context. — VNS
