HCM CITY (VNS) — A collaborative dance workshop between local and foreign dancers will be held at the Erato music and performing art school in HCM City's District 7 today.
Organised by Sai Gon Artbook and Unicorn Dance Studio, it will include two parts, a contemporary jazz dance by Aditep Buanoi (Jane) of Thailand and contemporary and neo-classical ballet featuring Do Hai Anh (Yumi) of Viet Nam.
The workshop is part of the Dance to Exchange project initiated by dancer Anh, who won the silver prize at the Korean International Modern Dance Competition in 2012.
It is a cultural and photography exchange project between Anh and famous dancers in Southeast Asia, including Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines.
Anh got the idea for the workshop during the Southeast Asia Choreolab's Young Choreographer Project with the Rimbun Dahan (Malaysia) art community held in May last year.
"It will help me and others approach the special cultures of many foreign countries and strengthen ties through dance photo collections, and bring art closer to life," Anh said.
Anh started dancing at the age of 5 with the Baby Mickey dance group. She then studied at the HCM City Dance School for seven years.
In September 2014, she joined the renowned Arabesque Dance troupe, based in HCM City, on its tour of six states in the US.
Anh has opened Unicorn Studio, a dancing and photography studio where she creates her pieces and develops an upcoming charity project Art for Everyone, that will teach dancing to children and adults for free.
Also taking part in the workshop is Thai dancer and choreographer Aditep Jane.
He has won many awards, including third place in Japan's Yokosuka Ballet Competition in the contemporary category. —VNS
