HA NOI (VNS) — A new tournament record was set yeasterday at the National Youth Shooting Championships in Ha Noi.
Bui Hong Phong of HCM City made history in the men's 25m rapid fire pistol event at the National Sports Training Centre by shooting 574 points in the individual pool, four more than the previous record set by Hanoian Pham Anh Dat four years ago.
His teammate Phan Xuan Chuyen came second with a result of 552 points, followed by Nguyen Dinh Dong of the Military with 550.
Phong set another record in the team class with 1,661 points, breaking the old record of set two years ago by the HCM City squad.
Hai Duong marksman Phan Huu Duc took a gold in the men's 10m air rifle category with 588 points. His result equalled the tournament record set by Bui Anh Tung last year.
Hanoian Nguyen Van Dung and Tran Viet Cuong were runners-up.
Dung and his teammates however won the team event with 1,724 points.
HCM City were second, followed by Vinh Phuc.
Hosts Ha Noi pocketed their second gold yesterday in the men's running target rifle individual.
Nguyen Cong Dau topped the table with 545 points, followed by Luong Van Nghia of the Military and Ngo Truong Phuc, another Hanoian.
Their third title came in the team event with a score of 1,553 points, 36 clear of the Military.
After two days of competition, HCM City top the medals tally with three titles, followed by Ha Noi and Hai Duong.
Nearly 200 athletes from 13 delegations are taking part in the annual tournament 10 categories for men and 10 for women until August 4. — VNS
