QUẢNG NINH — Young Vietnamese golfers are getting ever closer to their aspirations of making a mark on the PGA Tour.
A cooperation agreement signed on Saturday in Quảng Ninh between the Việt Nam Golf Training Centre (Every Golf Vietnam), Silk Path Dong Trieu Golf & Country Club, and the Professional Golfers’ Association of America (PGA of America) opens new doors for young Vietnamese golfers on their journey to the international stage.
This partnership with the PGA of America marks a significant advancement for Vietnamese golf, enhancing training quality while providing opportunities for young golfers to participate in international tournaments and get closer to prestigious events like the PGA Tour.
The event featured golf legend Nick Faldo, a renowned golf course designer and the most successful golfer in European history, as well as a former world number one.
Through this agreement, the PGA will help improve the quality of golf training for professional athletes in Việt Nam. Additionally, it will enable young golfers to engage in training and management within the professional golf industry both domestically and internationally.
According to Nguyễn Nghiêm Hoàng Nam, a representative of the Việt Nam Golf Training Centre, golf in Việt Nam is rapidly developing. The collaboration with the PGA of America will allow the centre to enhance its training programmes with an internationally recognised curriculum. Furthermore, golfers will have the opportunity to compete in international tournaments such as the PGA Junior Tour and the Junior PGA Championships.
During the signing ceremony, Faldo said: "As a professional golfer, I always design each golf course to present varying levels of difficulty, catering to both amateurs and professionals. The Silk Path Dong Trieu Golf & Country Club is well-equipped to host tournaments in the Southeast Asian, Asian and World Professional Golf Tournament Systems."
"I have maintained the Faldo Series youth tournament system for amateur athletes aged 16-21 for 30 years, and in Southeast Asia for 20 years. I hope Việt Nam will host similar tournaments to promote golf in the country. Achievements in these tournaments will provide young golfers with the qualifications to compete in larger events across Southeast Asia and Asia," Faldo added.
Silk Path Dong Trieu Golf & Country Club will collaborate with the PGA of America to organise the first PGA Junior Tour in Việt Nam. This tournament, aimed at athletes aged 7-16, seeks to identify the best golfers for the PGA Junior system in Southeast Asia and Asia.
This initiative presents a golden opportunity for young Vietnamese golfers to compete, learn and gradually progress toward the world's top playing fields. With the support of the PGA of America, Vietnamese golf is poised for significant growth, bringing young talents closer to their dreams of conquering the PGA Tour. VNS
