HÀ NỘI – Underprivileged children will enjoy shows performed by artists from the Việt Nam Youth Theatre every Saturday of this month at the Thanh Niên Theatre on 37 Trần Bình Trọng Street.
The shows include Cậu Bé Khổng Lồ Lạc Vào Hang Kiến (Giant Boy Lost In Ant Cave), Dế Mèn Phiêu Lưu Ký (The Adventures Of A Cricket) and Ông Lão Đánh Cá Và Con Cá Vàng (Fisherman And A Golden Fish).
The audience will comprise children who live in orphanage centres and study at vocational schools around Hà Nội.
“We hope we can help underprivileged children become more confident and integrate with the community,” director Bùi Như Lai said.
“It is not easy for these children to watch shows at a theatre. The Youth Theatre-designed charity programme, which is being funded by organisations and individuals, is aimed at making children happy on the occasion of International Children’s Day on June 1.”
The new show Cậu Bé Khổng Lồ Lạc Vào Hang Kiến that debuted last month conveys a message to young children. It is the story of a boy who prefers pleasure to work and is captured by an ant family. During his time spent with the ants, the boy learns several lessons which change him for the better.
The 70-minute play Dế Mèn Phiêu Lưu Ký was adapted from the children’s book of the same-name by the popular late writer Tô Hoài in 1941.
The work portrays the interesting adventures and lives of crickets and their interactions with the insect world around them. These brave creatures overcome many difficulties, all the while dreaming of peace and justice.
The play provides interesting lessons on humanity for children and for an older audience.
Fisheman and A Golden Fish, staged by German director Dominik Gunther for the Youth Theatre in 2015, combines a fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm with a popular story in Việt Nam.
During the shows, the underprivileged children will participate in games created by the artists. They will also be presented gifts.
The charity shows will be held in the central provinces of Nghệ An, Quảng Bình and in Huế and in Đà Nẵng cities from May 21 to June 5. — VNS
