Viet Nam received more than 677,000 foreign visitors in the first 10
days of August, 22 per cent up year-on-year, according to the Viet Nam
National Administration of Tourism.
A Department of Tourism will be set up to improve
management as the scale of operations in the industry continues to grow,
the deputy chairwoman of HCM City''s People''s Committee, Nguyen Thi
Hong, has said.
To accommodate 7 million foreign visitors and 24 million local tourists
in 2020, HCM City will need 27,000 more hotel rooms, including 6,700
rooms of three- to five-star standards.
A draft decree on managing foreign visitors''
vehicles by the Ministry of Transport is expected to allow foreigners to
arrive in Viet Nam in their own cars and motorbikes.
For the first nine months of the year, Viet Nam saw
more than 4.8 million foreign tourists and 25.5 million domestic
travellers, earning VND110,000 billion (US$5.2 billion), up 15 per cent
over the same period last year, according to the Ministry of Culture,
