HCM CITY — Bánh Khọt (shrimp or mung bean pancakes) deep-fried until a crunchy golden colour, and served with sweet and sour fish sauce and fresh herbs, are a must-try street food in HCM City.
To best enjoy the dish, put the pancake inside a small bowl, sprinkle with a few herbs, and put the sauce inside. The crunchy pancake will absorb the sauce this way, making the flavours blend more finely.
Try the pancakes at a small eatery hidden at the end of an alley at 25 Văn Cao Street in Tân Phú District. The freshly made pancakes are only VNĐ2,000 ($0.09) each. As the pancakes are small, many people eat around 10 at a time, while big eaters can easily gobble up 20.
The pancake stall is open from 11:30am to 6 pm daily, with breaks on the 1st and 15th of each lunar month. — VNS
