Over the past few years, BB Homefood has become a popular restaurant chain in Ha Noi, famous for its diverse menu, delicious food, convenient location and especially its reasonable price for middle-income Hanoians.

Having visited the BB Homefood locations on Trieu Viet Vuong and Giang Vo, I’m most impressed by BB Homefood Street Kitchen at 6 Ngo Quyen Street because of its prominent location near Hoan Kiem Lake and the Old Quarter, and most of all, its stunning view and tasty food.

A narrow doorway leads guests to a spacious home-styled interior. Mirrors hang on the pillars, opening up the space and filling it with natural daylight. Details like this make for a pleasant dining experience.

BB Homefood Street Kitchen satisfies its customers with a wide range of dishes, from chicken, beef, seafood, Vietnamese food to fusion-style cuisine.

Today, on my eighth visit, I pick a healthier choice of seafood instead of red meat. For starter, I choose a sweet and sour lang fish salad made with vegetables, fish fillets, crispy fried shallots and crunchy roasted peanuts. This perfect starter quickly arouses all of my senses, especially my taste buds. The fish is nicely sliced and well marinated to get rid of the fishy smell. The firm yet tender fish slices, fresh salad greens and herbs, buttery peanuts and shallots all come together beautifully in the flavourful oriental-style dressing. The fish doesn’t smell at all even when the salad is served chilled. For me, the salad is a refreshing start to the meal and absolutely delicious.

Another dish worth trying here is the steamed lang fish with celery and lemon. I can’t help but fall in love with the whimsical plating of the restaurant. Unlike the salad, the fish in this dish is cut into bite-sized pieces. The fish cubes are stacked with fresh golden-colored lemon slices here and there. This dish is similar to the traditional Vietnamese fish soup. Fresh and firm fish, celery and enoki mushrooms bring an explosion of flavour to the broth: naturally sweet, slightly tart, and deeply fragrant and well-paired with fresh rice noodles. I’m in love with this dish: simple ingredients create a delicious result.

If you crave another nourishing course, I recommend the Korean-style pan-seared seafood combo. A smorgasbord of goodness from the sea: shrimp, squid, clam and fish balls, as well as sausage, omelet and kimchi; all soaked in a spicy sweet authentic Korean chilli sauce and topped with stringy melted cheese. Served with white rice, this is a visually appealing dish that truly reflects a Korean style of cuisine. The fresh ingredients are presented on a large iron skillet. Depending on your preference, you can mix them together with rice and serve hot. The naturally sweet and flavourful ingredients blended with spices and savory cheese are simply irresistible. Recalling the experience makes my mouth water.

This 3-dish selection is suitable for 4-5 diners. Imagine visiting BB Homefood Street Kitchen for a cozy meal after a whole day strolling around the Old Quarter, how wonderful would it be? I really hope you have as great an experience as I did. VNS
